Brittany

Hello!

I’m Brittany Volk, a marketing designer for Raymond James — a leading financial firm located in St. Petersburg, Fla. I’m part of a big team of creatives, communicators and digital pros who support our internal clients and advisors. My design specialty is publication layout, typesetting and infographics.

Before joining the Raymond James team in 2023, I was a marketing project coordinator, designer and copy editor/writer for BluePearl Pet Hospital, a nationwide network of 100+ specialty and emergency pet hospitals.

It’s been exciting to apply my newspaper background to corporate marketing and grow my skills in new places. I love learning new techniques and processes while collaborating with creative groups.

I also take on freelance clients to develop brand identities, design publications and create wedding invitations.

my past life in journalism

For the Tampa Bay Times, I worked alongside writers, editors, photographer and artists to create functional and beautiful layouts for the features/entertainment sections of the paper. Sure, it was basically moving words and pictures around on pages, but my obsessive organizational skills and eye for clean design gave readers a friendly newspaper experience. As an art director, I commissioned illustrations for Times stories from talented artists all over the globe. I can barely draw a stick figure, so that part was the most fun.

Wanting to share my troubling TV habit, I also started writing for the Times. It began with an obit to Dr. McDreamy, and soon I was heading to a country icon’s concert to review Willie Nelson. I penned the occasional food essay, such as my ode to New Jersey pork roll and my dad’s creative birthday cakes. Find a collection of my words here.

In my last effort to keep one foot inside the Times, I co-hosted a podcast, Life of the Party, where my friend and wondrous wordsmith Stephanie Hayes gossiped about the latest pop culture news and interviewed local and famous celebs. Meeting Kel Mitchell is in my top 5 moments of my life.

Forever a Midwesterner at heart who only misses sweaters, not the freezing-nose-hair cold weather, I grew up in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 2009 with degrees in Journalism and Studio Art.

One day, my friends will stop getting married, but in the meantime, I’m happy to lend my talent designing their wedding paper goods, especially when they splurge for letterpress printing or masterful photography.
